BREAST OVERVIEW
Dr. Clifford P. Clark treats many conditions of the breast, which generally involve shape, position, and/or size. The most frequent and popular procedure involves the enlargement of the breast. Breast shape and position become a greater concern after childbirth, weight loss, or with advancing age. To create the ideal breast, a natural balance of volume, nipple position and shape must be achieved. This may include augmentation using implants, lifting, also known as Mastopexy, or reduction depending upon your needs or concerns.
BREAST AUGMENTATION
With breast augmentation, implants can be placed either above or below the muscle. Placement will depend on your desired look, whether or not you have had previous breast surgeries, and the amount of breast tissue you have. Incisions may be placed inframammary (at the base of the breast), peri areolar (around the nipple), or transaxillary (under the arm pit). We will discuss whether a saline or silicone gel implant best suits your needs.
At your consultation, we will take multiple measurements to determine your chest dimensions. We then consider what you hope to achieve, and from this combined information, we select the technique and implant that will provide the best result for you. Once determined we will give you a similar sized implant to "try on" during the consultation.
BREAST LIFT AND REDUCTION
Sometimes, the breast loses its shape and the nipples drift below the breast crease. If this is the case for you, a Mastopexy (or breast lift) may be necessary. A breast implant alone cannot solve this problem, but often an implant is used in addition if a larger breast is desired. Our philosophy is to utilize the smallest scar possible to achieve the greatest improvement of shape. In the most extreme cases, the incision goes around the nipple, straight up and down, and in the breast crease. In moderate cases, we are able to provide a limited incision, which can be located just around the nipple and can extend vertically in the shape of a lollipop.
The same method of improving the shape of the breast is used for a breast reduction, as is used for a breast lift. The difference is that breast tissue is removed in a reduction, in a very precise fashion.
